… keep smiling

this one is my very special shot I took during the european photoblogger meet up in berlin. we were visiting the holocaust memorial, which is a very strong place.

the atmosphere was kinda depressing, knowing what happened with all the people to whom the memorial is dedicated to, the weather has supported that mood, it rained, it was cold and everywhere you were looking: cold grey. damn!!!

chuks was in a gangway beween the "stelen" and waited that hannah finished her shots. he looked to see if she is done and I saw his warm face with that friendly smile, a welcome opposite to the mood given by the memorial place…. it was like a ray of sunshine!!!

It was an instinctive move what I did, point and shoot from the hip, like a gunman, and I’m very happy that the shot has turned out as it is. after posting this image on flickr, chuks was very moved and wanted to have a print. so, what you see today, is what chuks will get next week via snail mail 🙂 many thanks to chuks for allowing me to post this here in my blog.

thanks to all attendees of the berlin meeting, having a splendid time together with lot of fun and photographs. I’m looking forward to the next meet-up, which will be in barcelona, spain sometimes in 2008 (I’ll keep you informed)

you guys have a great weekend. cheers and take care

During the weekend of the meetup, i jokingly asked for everyone to post their images of me so i could make a collection of them. Like most photographers, i have Gig's of images but none of me.

However, i was not prepared for this one, and i was genuinely moved by it. First because i really like the image itself and secondly because i am the subject. I couldn't have asked for more. Now i am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my Vernon Trent original.

Simplicity itself; the 'gut' always works, yes? love it.

As you say the expression speaks a lot - combined with the unusual composition it makes for a unique image
